The Narrows of the Harpeth Tunnel

The Narrows of the Harpeth is one of the most historically and geologically significant sites in all of Cheatham County, drawing visitors for its rare combination of natural drama and layered history. At the heart of the site is the Montgomery Bell Tunnel — a 100-yard passage hand-cut through solid limestone in 1818 and now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The site also features ancient Native American rock carvings, the remains of a historic mill, and a cave, all set within the stunning narrow gorge where the Harpeth River loops back on itself.
