Narrows Tunnel Trail / Bluff Trail

The Narrows of the Harpeth Hiking Trail is one of the most rewarding short hikes in all of Middle Tennessee, combining natural beauty with genuine historical significance in an easy 1.5-mile walk. The trail winds through wooded terrain and along the Harpeth River before arriving at the iconic Narrows — a dramatic gorge where the river bends back on itself. The highlight is the Montgomery Bell Tunnel, a 100-yard passage hand-cut through solid limestone in 1818, now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Unique rock formations, seasonal wildflowers, and river wildlife make this trail a memorable stop for visitors of any fitness level. The trail is located off Cedar Hill Road within Harpeth River State Park and is ideal for hiking, picnicking, and canoeing access.
