Mound Bottom State Archaeological Area

Dating back to the Mississippian period (1000–1350 CE), the site features 12 earthen mounds surrounding a seven-acre ceremonial plaza along the scenic Harpeth River. Once a thriving regional center, Mound Bottom offers a fascinating glimpse into the lives and culture of the area's earliest inhabitants. Today, the site is protected by the State of Tennessee, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and managed as part of Harpeth River State Park. Guided tours are offered periodically to help preserve this remarkable piece of Tennessee history.
